Unlike many other industries, cooperating moving companies manage to maintain their service in quality and availability. However, this is not always within the control of the companies. Where several factors at once have an unfavorable impact on the entire service industry, moving companies are sometimes particularly affected. The most serious example, much to the dismay of many moving customers with an international destination, is certainly the current overseas move by container. For customers as well as for moving companies, container transport by ship is becoming more and more of a challenge. This is a continuation of an unpleasant trend from the last two years, which we have already reported on:

Many factors influence at present the removal with the sea container
The causes already described at that time have in the meantime partly aggravated and are brewing into an unpleasant mixture, especially on the sea routes. Corona continues to cause the closure of entire ports, as recently happened with important trading ports in China. In many countries, the pandemic is also causing a shortage of skilled workers in the logistics sector - from dockworkers to forklift or truck drivers to captains. Ships do not reach their destination port or are anchored at sea for days. First, container demand rose and tightened supply, then commodity prices rose and made transportation by sea freight even more expensive. All these factors interact and ultimately have a massive impact on the overseas move. This is because moving containers account for only a small share of container shipping and are given secondary treatment by shipping companies.
Cooperating moving companies as the bearers of bad news
Expats, expatriates and business movers are currently feeling the consequences. International moves have become significantly more expensive and require planning that begins well in advance. Even then, the arrival of the moving container cannot be reliably calculated. Deadlines for container deliveries can often simply not be met by the shipping companies.
The moving companies are only the bearers of bad news. Neither they have influence on the sea transport of the removal container nor do they earn from the horrendous price increases. Rather the present situation means also for the cooperating removal enterprises an organizational additional expenditure, which one accepts for the customers however gladly. For the international removal the specialized enterprises hold some recommendations ready:
- speak as early as possible with a professional removal enterprise about your removal planning. With 3 months in advance, an overseas move should currently be organized so that the container can be booked and ship capacity reserved.
- Plan for higher costs for the required sea container. Price increases vary and depend greatly on the destination port. Your moving logistics provider will inform you of the transportation budget to be calculated.
- As a precaution, be prepared for a delayed arrival of your moving goods at the destination. Yes, it's easier said than done. But a timely delivery of your moving container is unfortunately not guaranteed at the moment.
